Paige woke up late, and seeing the hour, erupted out of bed. Her slightly sore muscles brought a sensual smile to her lips and after showering quickly, she made her way downstairs. Maria greeted her with a large cup of coffee which, after her first large gulp, offered her sublime pleasure. Not sure where everyone was, she decided to make her way to the stables to see if she could find Mark. Visions of last night swirled through her mind and she felt her body instantly respond.

Seeing that the stables were deserted she walked along the fence towards the smaller of the three paddocks. Storm Cloud stood facing away but turned quickly upon hearing her approach, pinning her with his incredibly intelligent blue eyes. Mark had asked that she not attempt to touch him as he was still unsure of how he would respond, especially if he were not there to supervise. Storm Cloud had not yet allowed anyone other than Mark near him. As he turned and began walking towards her, Paige backed away from the fence. He was a formidable seventeen hands high, all sleek muscle, powerful and majestic. Moving his head in a slightly up and down motion, his tail loose and swinging freely, he reached the railing, then stopped, his ears pointed forward. Unsure, Paige looked around to see if anyone was nearby. He didn't appear angry, but Paige knew nothing about horse behavior. Suddenly, he reached his head over the rail, nickering softly. Tentatively, she stepped forward, then, gently began to stroke his nose. When he moved even closer, she reached down to his neck, rubbing her hand along the corded muscle under his coat.

“Well, you’re not so mean,” Paige whispered quietly. “I think maybe there are just people who don't understand you,” she continued. “You are in the best place in the world, Storm Cloud,” she finished, a smile of joy lighting her features. Hearing his name he nickered again, the sound sending shivers down her spine. Turning his head slightly towards her, his gaze settled between the lines of her heart, leaving a permanent imprint. In that millisecond, something intangible shifted inside of her. Storm Cloud, who had no reason to trust her, had handed her his faith. Paige inherently recognized what an incredible gift had been bestowed upon her.

It was also the moment she fell head over heels in love with another rescue. First Chloe and now Storm Cloud. It occurred to her that every moment spent here drew her closer and closer and a very large part of her was terrified.

Last night had been magical, more than she could have ever dreamed. She felt the warmth spread through her as she replayed their lovemaking in her mind. Mark had been a passionate lover, yet he gave more than he took. Standing there, her hand absently caressing Storm Cloud’s nose, she could see herself here forever. It both excited and terrified her. Then, a sudden feeling of dread as she realized that she and Mark lived in two completely different worlds.
